Cancer Surgeries

Why Surgery Is Important in Cancer Care

For many types of cancer, surgery is one of the main treatments. It can remove tumors, help diagnose cancer, relieve symptoms, or make other treatments like chemotherapy more effective. In some cases, surgery is combined with chemotherapy or radiation to give patients the best chance at recovery.

Our team performs a wide range of cancer surgeries, from biopsies and tumor removals to more complex procedures. In some cases, we also place or remove ports to make chemotherapy easier and more comfortable.

Common Cancer Surgeries We Perform

Breast Cancer

  • Needle Biopsy: A small sample of tissue is taken to check for cancer cells.

  • Lumpectomy: Removal of the tumor and a small margin of tissue, preserving most of the breast.

  • Mastectomy: Removal of all breast tissue, sometimes including nearby skin or muscle.

  • Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy: Removal of the first lymph node(s) that cancer is most likely to spread to.

Port Placement/Removal

  • A port is a small device placed under the skin to make chemotherapy treatments easier. It can be removed once treatment is complete.

Colon Cancer

  • Colon Resection: Removal of the part of the colon containing cancer, with the healthy ends reconnected.

  • Colostomy Placement/Takedown: Creating (or reversing) an opening in the abdomen to pass stool into a bag if reconnection isn’t possible right away.

Melanoma Removal

  • Surgery to remove skin cancer along with a margin of normal tissue to prevent recurrence.

Lymphadenectomy

  • Removal of lymph nodes that contain or are at risk of containing cancer.

Esophageal Cancer Surgery

  • Removal of part or all of the esophagus, sometimes with reconstruction using the stomach or intestine.

Sarcoma Surgery

  • Removal of soft tissue or bone tumors, often with a margin of healthy tissue to ensure all cancer cells are taken out.
