A: In most cases, you may shower 24–48 hours after surgery, unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon. Avoid soaking in tubs, pools, or hot tubs until your incision is fully healed. Pat the incision dry with a clean towel—do not scrub. Always follow the specific instructions you are given at discharge, as recommendations may vary depending on your procedure.

A: You will be given detailed instructions before your procedure, including a clear-liquid diet the day prior and a bowel prep using Miralax and Dulcolax. It’s important to follow these instructions closely to ensure the colon is clean and the exam is accurate. If you have misplaced your prep instructions, please contact our office and we will provide another copy.

A: Stop by our clinic to complete a records release form. Once it’s signed, we can print or fax your records to you or another provider. Please bring a valid photo ID when requesting records.

A: In many cases, no referral is needed, but some insurance plans do require one. We recommend contacting your insurance company or calling our office for guidance.

A: Recovery time varies depending on the type of surgery you have. Your surgeon will discuss expected downtime with you before your procedure. We are also happy to provide work or school excuse notes as needed.

A: Please call our office during business hours. If you experience severe pain, bleeding, fever, chest pain, or difficulty breathing, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away.
